Iconic Australian music festival Splendour in the Grass has announced it will not return in 2025, marking another setback for the nation’s live music scene. The festival, which last ran in 2023, shared the news via social media, citing the need for additional time to regroup and plan for a stronger comeback.
"Splendour needs a little more time to recharge," organisers wrote. "We’ll be back when the time is right, bigger and better than ever." They hinted at new projects in the pipeline for music fans, promising updates in the coming months.
The announcement follows the cancellation of Splendour’s 2024 edition, which was called off shortly after its lineup was revealed. Rising operational costs and underwhelming ticket sales were cited as significant factors. The festival was set to feature headliners Kylie Minogue, Future, and Arcade Fire.
Splendour in the Grass, held at North Byron Parklands since 2001, has faced significant disruptions in recent years. The 2020 and 2021 editions were cancelled due to the pandemic, leaving only two festivals held in the past five years.
This news comes during a turbulent period for Australian festivals, with many facing financial strain, higher costs, and shifting audience demographics. Fans are now left hoping for a triumphant return of Splendour in the future.
