Martha’s Vineyard bids farewell to the Beach Road Weekend music festival and MV Concert Series as organisers announce their decision not to return to the island in 2024. The Vineyard Arts and Culture Foundation disclosed that the iconic festival will find a new home on Cape Cod in 2025.
Originating in 2019 with the aim of creating a premier New England destination event, Beach Road Weekend faced financial challenges in its debut year but gained momentum and success in subsequent editions. Despite a sold-out 2022 festival featuring acclaimed acts like the Avett Brothers, Beck, and Wilco, inflationary pressures and pandemic-related supply chain challenges led to losses exceeding $1 million.
Festival operators, Innovation Arts & Entertainment, had hoped to achieve financial and operational efficiency in 2023 but were met with continued financial pressures, escalating costs, and significant losses. The decision not to return to Martha’s Vineyard in 2024 stems from the high expenses associated with producing events on the island. Beach Road Weekend plans to take a year off in 2024 for a redesign and will reveal a new location on Cape Cod for its anticipated return in 2025.
